The Secular Franciscan Order, formerly widely known as the Third Order of St Francis, is the world-wide spiritual family of those who strive to live the Gospel life of Our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ, following the pattern set by St Francis of Assisi, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

What we do

Secular Franciscans, together with all people of good will, are called to build a more fraternal and evangelical world so that the Kingdom of God may be brought about more effectively.

The Secular Franciscan Order is divided into fraternities of various levels - local, regional, national and international.

The local fraternity ... becomes the base unit of the whole Order and a visible sign of the Church, the community of love.... read more

CONSTITUTION ON THE CHURCH - LUMEN GENTIUM Promulgated By His Holiness, Pope Paul VI on Nov. 21, 1964:-
5. The mystery of the holy Church is already brought to light in the way it was founded.

For the Lord Jesus inaugurated his Church by preaching the Good News, that is, the coming of the kingdom of God, promised over the ages in the scriptures:

"The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand" (Mk. 1:15; Mt. 4:17).

Henceforward the Church, endowed with the gifts of her founder and faithfully observing his precepts of charity, humility and self-denial, receives the mission of
proclaiming and establishing among all peoples the kingdom of Christ and of God,
and she is, on earth, the seed and the beginning of that kingdom.

While she slowly grows to maturity, the Church longs for the completed kingdom and, with all her strength, hopes and desires to be united in glory with her king.

DECREE ON THE MISSION ACTIVITY OF THE CHURCH - Ad Gentes Promulgated by His Holiness, Pope Paul VI On Dec. 7, 1965:-
10. The Church, sent by Christ to reveal and to communicate the love of God to all men and nations
is aware that there still remains a gigantic missionary task for her to accomplish.
