Please pray for the repose of the Soul of Patrick McGinley who died on the 29th February 2008 aged seventy two. He leaves a wife, Anne, four children and several grandchildren. Many of you will have known Pat, our first fraternity minister. His broad, Glaswegian accent, his no nonsense, straight talking. Such a big heart and always faithful to his Franciscan vocation, from the early thoughts of pursuing a calling as a lay brother at Chilworth in his late teens, to his admission to the Secular Franciscan in October 1985 and his Profession in 1988. He was always looking for what he could do, working with the homeless, drug addicts, prisoners, people recovering from or living with mental illness. In his words, “The Church is full of good, living catholics, that's fine; but I'm a franciscan and we need to BE out there. Francis did what was needed where it was needed. That's for me!" Pat helped found the first A.A. group in Port Talbot over thirty years ago, as well as “Recovery”, a self help group for those living with mental health problems and drug addiction. His ongoing pet project was to rebuild Capel Mair, a ruin of a chapel. Regularly he would try to get people to give him the money or stones; or permission to start repairs; all to no avail. It now overlooks his grave from Margam mountain. I cannot imagine our fraternity without Pat. Even these past two years when illness and suffering prevented him from getting to the venue of our monthly meeting, we would often all go to his home afterwards for some ongoing formation and to plan activities. The National bulletin was a delight to him and he valued being kept involved and informed. Please pray for us too in our loss. Angela Bradley, sfo, Minister, Port Talbot.
